What the NHS covers

The NHS provides all treatment that's clinically needed to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy and free from pain. Here's what that means at NH Smiles.

Check-ups and prevention

Examinations, X-rays, oral cancer screening, advice on looking after your teeth, and a scale and polish when your dentist says you need one. Children can have fluoride varnish and fissure sealants to protect against decay. Band 1, £27.90.

Fillings and root canals

Fillings to repair decay. Root canal treatment to save an infected tooth. Band 2, £76.60.

Extractions

Removing teeth that can't be saved. If a removal is complex, we may refer you to a specialist service. Band 2, £76.60.

Gum treatment

Deep cleaning and treatment for gum disease. Band 2, £76.60.

Crowns, bridges and dentures

Treatment made in a dental lab to restore broken or missing teeth, including full and partial dentures and denture repairs. Band 3, £332.10.

Children's dentistry

Check-ups and treatment for under 18s are free. Children can see a dentist from the day their first tooth appears, so bring them along with you. If your child may need braces, we can refer them to an NHS orthodontist.

Urgent care

Same-day or next-day help for patients of the practice in pain. Urgent, £27.90. What to do in a dental emergency.

What the NHS doesn't cover

Treatment that's purely cosmetic, such as teeth whitening, isn't available on the NHS. Your dentist will talk you through the NHS options that suit you, and if you'd like something the NHS doesn't cover, we can refer you to a practice that offers it privately.
